Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about massage therapy at Hibiscus Springs in Leduc, Alberta

General Questions

What should I wear to my massage appointment?

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to your appointment. During your massage, you'll undress to your comfort level - most clients undress completely or to their underwear. You're always properly draped with sheets, and only the area being massaged is uncovered. Your comfort and modesty are our top priority.

What should I expect during my first visit?

First-time clients receive an extra 15 minutes at no charge for a thorough intake assessment. We'll discuss your health history, areas of concern, and treatment goals. This helps us create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

How often should I get a massage?

It depends on your individual needs and goals. For general wellness and stress relief, monthly sessions work well. For chronic pain or specific conditions like TMJ, weekly or bi-weekly sessions may be more beneficial initially. We'll recommend a treatment plan based on your situation.

Will massage therapy hurt?

Therapeutic massage may involve some discomfort when working on problem areas, but it should never be painful. We work within your comfort level and adjust pressure as needed. Communication is key - always let us know if something is too intense or uncomfortable.

TMJ Therapy Questions

What is TMJ therapy and how can it help me?

TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) therapy is specialized massage treatment for jaw pain and dysfunction. It includes both intraoral (inside the mouth) and external techniques to address clicking, popping, clenching, grinding, and TMJ-related headaches. This therapy can significantly reduce pain and improve jaw function.

Is intraoral massage uncomfortable?

While it may feel unusual at first, intraoral work is generally not painful. We use gloves and work slowly and carefully inside your mouth to access tight jaw muscles. Many clients find significant relief from this technique. We always explain what we're doing and work at your comfort level.

How many TMJ sessions will I need?

This varies based on the severity and duration of your condition. Some clients experience relief in 1-3 sessions, while chronic TMJ issues may require weekly sessions initially, transitioning to maintenance appointments. We'll assess your progress and recommend a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
